Food Donations Needed for Animals at LCAS

Lane County Animal Services is reporting that its animal food supply has been contaminated with bugs. LCAS will be discarding all dry food and needs the community’s help to replace supplies.

According to LCAS Supervisor Tom Howard, most of the shelter’s food is donated from the community. While LCAS always keeps a reserve, the infestation will require Animal Services staff to discard all the dry food for the health of animals in their care.

“We know there are a lot of animal lovers in our communities and we’re calling on them to help us restock our pet food supplies,” said Howard. “We’re hopeful they will rally for the pets.”

An exterminator was called to the facility and it is believed the bugs originated in a food source, hatched, and then spread.

Community members able to help may drop donated food off at LCAS at 3970 W. First Ave., Eugene or call 541-682-3647 for more information.
