The Lane County Board of Commissioners voted today to pursue three additional Lane County Charter amendments this November.

The proposed changes would amend the Charter to allow for more flexibility to the County’s operating structure, allow the County Administrator the authority to make changes to the County operating structure, and to clarify language.

These Charter amendments come on the heels of the May 2010 Ballot where voters approved three proposed measures to the Charter.

“Lane County’s Charter is the guide for how we serve our community members and we want to ensure it remains clear and relevant,” said Board Chair Bill Fleenor.

Three to five community members are being sought to participate on each of three explanatory statement committees for these proposed amendments. Community members interested in serving may contact Constituent Services Assistants Belinda Beltran or Christopher Anglin at 541-682-4203, Constituent Services Assistant Diane Burch at 541-499-1151, or Lane County Counsel Liane Richardson at 541-682-4442.

Amendment of Section 19 of Lane County Charter

The Charter currently requires certain County functions or services to be provided by specific departments. The proposed language changes would still require that current functions be provided. However, it would allow for greater flexibility to the County’s operating structure to best provide services.

Amendment of Section 21 of Lane County Charter

The Charter currently requires changes to departmental structure be approved by County Commissioners. This amendment would add language that allows Commissioners to delegate this authority to the County Administrator.

Amendment of Section 22 of Lane County Charter

This amendment clarifies current language while keeping Section 22 requirements in place.
